Times are Hard

Once upon a time your city worker would be waving his wadge of multiple sterling notes. Nowadays, it seems all that can be afforded is a tenner.

To quote - "City workers leaned out of windows and waved £10 notes at demonstrators on the streets below, who responded with jeers and shouts."

While I'm on the subject, here's a positive note from the same article -

Sky News security expert Crispin Black said he was very impressed with the way police had defused the situation by refusing to rise to provocation.

"I think the police have been very skilled," he said.

"The way they moved people away from the RBS branch was very clever, and the way the temperature has cooled down there is testament to their skill."

I will be keeping tabs on the happenings down south.

New uniform needed

What with record temperatures on Monday for Aberdeen (and I can say it was warmer here inland) and a car thermometer recorded 31c (88f) at Burn o'Vat (nr Ballater) on Thursday, I for one am not bothered if the summers get better and better due to that global warming rumour, but having seen one of my colleagues perspiring, nae expiring, on the main street in Ballater on Thursday as he dealt with the sudden influx of townies escaping the haar, it got me thinking of my next subject report I will need to submit to my gaffers on my return to work on Thursday (82f forecast by the way).

Sir,

I have to report that there is a need for a new summer uniform. It is acknowledged that the death of the collar and tie in favour of the lightweight top thingy is more comfortable in the present weather conditions, but can consideration be given to the issue of designer shorts, RayBans, steel toe-capped sandals and air-conditioned body armour?

And do we still need to wear hats?

Police officers have been caught short after being supplied with the wrong trousers.

Animated movie stars Wallace and Gromit endured The Wrong Trousers and now Grampian Police is the short leg rather than the long arm of the law.

The Grampian force is switching to a more casual uniform in June.

The size problem is believed to have arisen after staff took their own waist measurements. Work is under way to iron out the problem with suppliers.

Grampian Police Inspector Ian Swan said: "I am aware a number of officers have experienced some difficulty with their trousers.

"Obviously, with the large number of officers - over 1,200 officers - who are being supplied with their uniform in one go, there's bound to be some mistakes and errors.

"I'm one of the lucky ones, I put down the right measurement and mine fit."

Mine fit too (but don't tell anyone I got Tayside police logos on my new fleeces!).

The quote from BBC that it was down to cops measuring themselves is just typical journalise and inaccurate - most of the complaints are down to the bagginess of the legs and that's not measured! Some trousers apparently would not look out of place as spinnakers!

Either that or flares are back in fashion.
