Training to Fail

Passing on a message close to my heart......Dear friend Today sees the release of The Lady in UK cinemas. This is a major new film about Aung San Suu Kyi directed by Luc Besson and starring Michelle Yeoh and David Thewlis. The Lady is based on the life story of inspirational Nobel Peace Prize winner and democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.Starting with the assassination of her father Aung San, Burma's independence hero, the film follows Aung San Suu Kyi's incredible journey to lead Burma's struggle for democracy, her imprisonment by the regime, and the love and support of her husband Michael Aris, the Oxford academic. The dictatorship refused to allow him to visit Aung San Suu Kyi one last time before his tragic death from cancer. You can watch a trailer here.In an interview with Burma Campaign UK, Michelle Yeoh said that she hopes people are inspired by the film to find out more about Burma:"The most important thing for us is to create an awareness. The cause is so vital, we want people to understand what is happening there and not to take for granted what you have. We have democracy but reach out your hand to people who are still fighting for theirs."Burma Campaign UK worked behind the scenes with producers back in 2007 to get the film started. This is just one of the many ways in which Burma Campaign UK works behind the scenes to raise awareness about Burma and make sure the world does not forget Burma's struggle for freedom. Please support our work for freedom in Burma and make a donation here.Thank you.
