Here's what the Evening Express had to say - original article @ http://www.thisisaberdeen.co.uk/displayNode.jsp?nodeId=190395&command=displayContent&sourceNode=190394&contentPK=14677217

    10:50 - 15 June 2006
Performers of all ages gather on stage this week for the North-east premiere of Big - The Musical.

Written by Richard Maltby and David Shire, the show is based on the film of the same name, which saw Tom Hanks wish himself big and set about learning to live with the consequences.

Director Laura Jarret combines a cast of talented youngsters and experienced Attic performers to bring this show to life on a set designed by Susan Ball and inspired by the film's famous piano scene.

Although the music is relatively unknown, it is nevertheless pleasant enough and played out with style under the experienced baton of musical director Ken McLeod.

The cast revel in every opportunity the show offers them, with Dan Greavey proving the perfect choice as the 6ft 3in man with the head and heart of 13-year-old Josh Baskins.

Leigh Ryrie also turns in a top- notch performance as the woman who wins his heart, while youngsters Ashley Anderson and Ewan Diack are outstanding in their accomplished portrayals of young Josh and his best buddy, Billy.

With some slower moments dragging the first act out to an hour and a half, this is a long sit for younger theatregoers in the audience.

But as modern musicals go, it is a fun choice and well worth a look.

Big - The Musical is on stage at the Aberdeen Arts Centre at 7.30pm nightly, with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm
